Pump House Clog Morris 1979-2019
40th Anniversary Day of Dance
Saturday 21st September 2019
Message from our Squire Sue Rawlins
Pump House Clog Morris has made it to 40!
The Side was formed at The Artichoke pub on Croxley Green in June 1979 by a group of women whose husbands and partners danced with Woodside Morris Men. A remark of “We could do that”, led to them and their friends meeting on Monday nights at the Pump House in Watford. They were very enthusiastic and with a bit of advice from other dance people - and a lot of practice - the Side ventured out into the world of Morris with just one dance!
Four decades later, although it’s been a bit touch-and-go at times, we’re still here, with quite a few more dances in our repertoire!
We wanted to mark our anniversary and, having danced very enjoyably at the Tower of London in 2013, decided to go back. With permission from the Historic Royal Palaces people we were delighted to be joined at The Tower by our friends Phoenix Morris from Rickmansworth, Whitethorn Morris from Harrow, Wicket Brood Morris from Bricket Wood and Hemlock Morris from Bedford.
On Saturday 21st September 2019 we were a colourful sight in the bright September sunshine (we were so lucky with the weather), with over 70 dancers and musicians entertaining the tourists and good people of London.
After a fabulous day of dancing, we invited all the Morris people back to the nearby Byward Kitchen and Bar where we had organised tea and cake for everyone.
It was a great day all round and thanks go to all our guest sides for sharing our Celebration and making it so special. We’re looking forward to the next 40 years!!
